Nils Andersson has worked as a toolmaker at Huddig for four years. With over 30 years of experience in the field, he plays a crucial role in manufacturing.

Fixtures are workpieces used to hold or lift parts to be assembled, joined or machined, for example.

- We manufacture different types of fixtures from scratch at the factory in Hudiksvall. To be able to manufacture world-class excavator loader , you need fixtures that simply don't exist," says Nils with a smile.

Working as a toolmaker

Nils says that he enjoys Huddig very much and is happy that he has managed to find a profession that has suited him so well all these years.

- The atmosphere at the company is very positive and there is a really good working environment. The workshop is bright and incredibly clean and nice, you can hardly believe your eyes when you enter the welding department. The noise level is pleasant, which I appreciate.

Huddig's tooling department manufactures welding fixtures, machining fixtures and lifting fixtures.

- We build fixtures according to the designers' drawings and make it possible to realize their ideas in practice. Most of the time we build according to the designers' drawings, but sometimes we have to design the fixtures ourselves. It's a very fun job that requires a lot of thinking.

"Problems are there to be solved"

There is no doubt about Nils' passion for invention and problem solving. Recycling and sustainability are two issues close to his heart and according to Nils, you should always try to fix broken things - instead of throwing them away and buying new ones.

- As often as possible, in the tools department we try to recover materials that can be reused. I don't like to throw things away and I think it's important to try to reuse existing resources for the sake of the environment. If something breaks, I like to spend some time thinking about how to fix it. Problems are there to be solved," says Nils, shrugging humbly.

Annual inspection of lifting fixtures

To prevent work accidents and ensure a safe and secure working environment, Huddig's lifting fixtures are inspected annually.

- I am responsible for the annual inspection of all Huddig lifting fixtures. Lifting fixtures are used, for example, to lift parts in and out of the excavator loader. With the help of measurement and analysis of test lifts, we ensure that the lifting fixtures work properly. Sometimes it can be a matter of lifting several tons, then it is extremely important that the lifting device has the right center of gravity so that no accident occurs.

Huddig focuses on self-manufactured fixtures

The tailoring profession is now described as a dying trade. More and more companies in the industry are choosing to buy in the service instead of having their own workshops. But Huddig has chosen a completely different direction.

- The first time I visited Huddig, I was very impressed because I noticed that the company invests in the tool department. Our own production of fixtures distinguishes us from our competitors and also contributes to the high quality of the machines, Nils concludes.
