At Huddig, we have always strived to build our machines as smart as possible - both in terms of design and production technology.
We are constantly looking for new and better options to create machines that meet both our high quality standards and our vision of a minimal carbon footprint. Already back in 2012, we took a big step towards a fossil-free future when we started the development of HUDDIG TIGON - the first excavator loader that can be powered by electricity, and today our entire company is working towards the UN's global goals.

Sustainability Report 2025
In this year’s sustainability report, we show how we are helping to steer the construction industry toward greater sustainability and to reduce environmental impact as well as resource and energy consumption, both in our own operations and for our customers. The report also describes how we work to create a safe, equitable, and inclusive workplace. During the year, we also conducted our first dual materiality analysis. The report was developed with inspiration from the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Read the auditor’s opinion here.

In January, Rikard Strandberg and Johan Wiklund from Huddig held an in-depth TIGON training course at Mekomek, focusing on safety, understanding, and security.

We at Huddig are one of the pioneers driving the green transformation that the entire industry faces. HUDDIG TIGON is an innovation starting a new era in the construction industry. The machine is not only a hybrid but a technical masterpiece. I am incredibly proud of all the employees and partners who have made this possible and look forward to continuing the journey towards a greener and more sustainable world.
Håkan Bäckström - CEO Huddig AB
One of the Swedish UN Association’s focus areas is Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are 17 ambitious and universal goals adopted by world leaders in 2015. The goals are to contribute to socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development and be achieved by 2030 in all world countries.
Over the years, our sustainability work has developed, expanded and refined. Based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we have chosen to focus on three specific areas where we and our industry can have the most impact.

Huddig’s sustainability efforts focus specifically on three areas: Decent Work and Economic Growth, Sustainable Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Climate Action. These are areas where we can make the greatest impact and pave the way for more companies in the construction and contracting industry. Below, you can read more about how we work in each of these areas in practice.

Our work under Goal 8 covers the areas of our own workforce, workers in the value chain, and corporate social responsibility.
Within our own operations, our overarching goal is to be a leader in workplace safety and health and to be the most attractive workplace. We conduct ongoing reviews to ensure a safe and health-promoting work environment. All employees are offered annual professional development, which is followed up through performance reviews and individual development plans. Our long-term commitment to education includes both internal initiatives and collaborations with universities, technical colleges, and driver training programs, where we help strengthen the future supply of skilled workers and promote a sustainable labor market.
Within the value chain, our goal is for our largest suppliers to be certified from a sustainability perspective. This is ensured through structured supplier assessments that include requirements regarding working conditions, human rights, and business ethics.
Corporate social responsibility permeates every aspect of our business and is essential for long-term, sustainable growth. We will maintain our position as the market leader in the Swedish market through high quality, responsible business practices, and continuous product development. An ethical and inclusive corporate culture with zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment is supported by our internal Code of Conduct.
Taken together, these efforts help to strengthen competitiveness, create sustainable jobs, and promote stable and responsible business development in line with Goal 8.

Our work on Goal 9 focuses primarily on the areas of pollution and the circular economy.
In the area of pollution, we continuously monitor the water quality of discharges from our own operations and identify and assess the risks associated with the chemicals we use. As part of our preventive efforts, we plan to investigate and develop technical solutions that can prevent major leaks from machinery in the field.
In the circular economy, our goal is to minimize resource consumption and extend the service life of our excavator loaders by further developing our circular business offering. We have created a system for reusing used parts. This means fewer newly manufactured parts and a longer service life for both machines and spare parts. At the same time, we strive to increase the material recycling rate by reducing the amount of combustible waste and materials sent to landfills.
Innovation is a key driver in our efforts to create a more sustainable infrastructure. As early as 2012, we took a step toward reducing the carbon dioxide emissions of our excavator loaders when we began developing our hybrid machine HUDDIG TIGON — the first excavator loader that can run solely on electricity without compromising on power or agility. Development is moving forward, and we are now working on creating a prototype of a fully electric excavator loader.
Through technological innovation, circular solutions, and reduced environmental impact, we are contributing to a more resource-efficient industry and sustainable development in line with Goal 9.

Our work on Goal 13 covers climate impact and biodiversity.
Climate change involves both adapting to climate change and working to mitigate it. When it comes to mitigating climate change, our long-term goal is to become a climate-neutral business by 2045. We track and analyze our greenhouse gas emissions under Scopes 1, 2, and partially 3. We are continuously working to reduce the climate impact of our own operations, and as an interim goal, our own vehicle fleet will be fossil-free by 2030.
In addition to climate issues, our work on Goal 13 also encompasses biodiversity and ecosystems. Through monitoring and dialogue with our battery suppliers, we ensure that sensitive ecosystems are taken into account during the extraction and production of raw materials. At the same time, we are working to reduce our products’ impact on biodiversity by raising awareness of how the soil and local environment can be affected by the use of our machines and how this impact can be minimized through mindful work practices.
By combining emission reductions in our own operations, technological development, and stricter requirements for our suppliers, Huddig contributes to the climate transition and to the protection of biodiversity. Our work strengthens both our long-term competitiveness and society’s ability to address climate-related challenges, in line with Goal 13.

A study conducted by Huddig in 2023 investigated the possibility of using the Green Performance Map (GPM) method to increase sustainability in production logistics.
The study used a qualitative method with a case study focusing on the assembly station of the excavator unit at Huddig. Data was collected through literature reviews, interviews, observations, filming, and written documents in order to apply the GPM method. The results show that GPM is an effective tool for visualizing environmental aspects, increasing employee awareness of environmental waste, reducing waste, and optimizing the workplace. The study also showed positive economic effects through reduced costs, increased revenue from waste, and more efficient logistics processes. The study shows that the recommendations benefit People, Planet, and Profit in accordance with the Triple Bottom Line.
